HTS RANKINGS: WEEK 7

Written by Bob Grim (Texas St.) 57 Friday, October 10, 2008

1. USC:  The Pac-10 has two levels, USC and then the rest of the Pac.

2.  California:  Cal moves into the number two spot after a decisive 24-14 win  over Arizona State.  Nate Longshore is temporarily back in the saddle at quarterback and the Bear defense is starting to get physical.  Cal has the week off before traveling to Arizona.

 3. Arizona:  The Wildcats are beginning to put things together on both sides of the ball.  AIRZONA is averaging 43.3 points a game behind Willie Tuitama and the defense has started to take on some of that old “Desert Swarm” attitude.

4. Oregon:  The Ducks have a critical week in front of them and should bounce back against UCLA, but a little known fact is this:  Rick Neuheisel has a winning record against the Ducks.  Last week against the Trojans, Oregon`s spread was spread way to thin and the defense gave up 598 yards, not a  recipe for a strong ranking.

5. Oregon State:  The Beavers could not finish against # 15 ranked Utah last week, but they are playing better and better.  This has been Mike Riley`s style, start slow and finish strong.  The Beavers are hopeful the premise holds true this season.  Watch this team if you get the chance, true freshman, Jacquizz Rodgers is worth the time.

6. Arizona State:  The Sun Devils drop after losing to Cal 24-14.  Until Arizona State puts a running game together that compliments the pass, their ranking will remain in the lower level of the Pac.  This will be a tough week, the team travels to USC and Rudy Carpenter is doubtful with a sprained ankle.

7. Stanford:  Great running game behind Toby Gerhart and Anthony Kimble.  Inconsistent passing game behind Tavita Pritchard.  This week the defense gets a true test against the Wildcats and AIRZONA.

8. UCLA:  The Bruins picked up a win against Washington State last week, but things get much tougher this week in Autzen Stadium vs the Oregon Ducks.  This could be an interesting contest, conventional wisdom says the Bruins do not have all the tools needed to be a contender.

9.Washington:  When things get bad, they sometimes get very bad.  Right now, it is getting ugly in the Emerald City.

10. Washington State:    Cougar fans….great news, head coach Paul Wulff held
tryouts this week for a Scout team quarterback….and found one….hope he
does not have to play in a game soon!

Here`s hoping your team is a HotTicket this week!
