OSU surprises USC in big upset
Written by Bob Grim (Texas St.) 53 Saturday, September 27, 2008

Friday, September 26th:  The Oregon State – USC game was billed as an Orange Out at Reser Stadium in Corvallis last night.  Maybe every home game should be an Orange Out, to include OSU`s retro uniforms with orange jerseys.  Most of you already know the outcome;  OSU 27-USC 21.  This is the first time an Oregon State team has defeated a number one  ranked team since the Giant Killers pulled it off against the Trojans in 1967.  Two weeks ago I said “If the Beavers find a rushing game and the defense gains experience, Oregon State could have a good year”.  They are beginning to have a good year!  The skill players all get the press, as they should;  but,  let`s not forget what won the game last night…….the young offensive line and a quick stunting defensive front.   The offensive wide bodies dominated the line of scrimmage with their zone blocking scheme allowing Jacquizz Rodgers the opportunity to do his thing, which was a beautiful thing!  Defensively, Mark Banker had players coming from everywhere.  The front seven are starting to mature and they have great quickness, which allowed them to keep heavy pressure on Mark Sanchez throughout the game.  When Sanchez did have time, OSU`s secondary maintained great coverage position and shut USC`s receivers down.

What appeared to be a cake walk for USC, rolling through the Pac-10 to the National Championship has suddenly made an unexpected turn, down what could be a very rough road.  The unexpected is what makes College Football such a “HotTicket”.  Still a ton of great action to look forward to this weekend.
