WEEK 1 IN THE PAC-10
Great opening weekend for the Pac-10
Written by Bob Grim (Texas St.) 44 Wednesday, September 03, 2008

Pac-10 teams were 5-1 against non-conference opponents in week one of the season.  Included were wins over teams from the SEC, Big Ten and the ACC.  USC has staked its claim as the number one team in the country, no argument here.   Arizona and Arizona State rolled over lesser teams…….while the California Golden Bears topped Michigan State 38-31.  The UCLA Bruins matured before our eyes, as they pinned a 27-24 loss on the number 18 ranked Tennessee Volunteers in overtime.  In other action Stanford opened with a 36-28 win over Oregon State, Oregon pinned a decisive loss on the Washington Huskies and Washington State dropped a game to the Oklahoma Cowboys.

Pac-10 players of the week are USC quarterback Mark Sanchez ( 26-35, 388 yds, 3 TD`s) offense.  Stanford Cardinal defensive cornerback Wapamo Osaisai ( 11 tt`s) defense.  The special teams player of the week is Kai Forbath, kicker for the UCLA Bruins.  Kai kicked two field goals (41yds and 42yds).  The second score was the game winner vs Tennessee in overtime.

Week One Tidbits:  Could this be number five?  USC has won four National Championships in years in which the Summer Olympics have been held (1928, 1932, 1972, 2004).
