Quarterback Jake Locker was named the Pac-10 Conference's Freshman of the Year while tailback Louis Rankin and center Juan Garcia both earned All-Pac-10 second-team honors.
Locker, from Ferndale, Wash., broke the UW and Pac-10 record for rushing yards by a quarterback, finishing the year with 986 yards and 13 touchdowns (also a UW record for a QB). Additionally, he set a new school record for passing yards by a freshman, finishing the season with 2,062 yards.
Rankin, a senior from Stockton, Calif., became the first 1,000-yard rusher at the UW since 1997. He finished the season with 1,294 yards and posted two 200-yard games during the season.
Garcia, a senior from Yakima, Wash., started every game at center for the second straight year.
"The honors and such are great," Locker said recently. "But, I would trade them all for team success. I couldn't do anything without the support and performance of my teammates, particularly the guys on the offensive line. For everything they've done for me, I really appreciate it."
Locker, who fell just shy of becoming the first quarterback in Pac-10 history to rush for more than 1,000 yards, ended the season with 986 rushing yards - the most for a quarterback in UW history. He and Louis Rankin, who rushed for 1,294 total yards, nearly became only the 40th duo in NCAA history to both rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season. Locker's 13 rushing touchdowns surpassed Mark Brunell's previous record (12) for a QB at Washington.
Through the air, Locker passed for 2,062 yards and 14 touchdowns. Both marks set new freshman records at UW - surpassing Brock Huard's marks of 1,881 yards and 13 TDs in 1996. Against Arizona, Locker connected with senior Marcel Reece for a 98-yard touchdown pass - the longest in school history.
